Our Golden Book Winners

Congratulations to our Golden Book winners
N SQUIRRELS - Tabitha. Our story was The Gruffalo. We listened carefully to the words used to describe the Gruffalo’s features. Then Tabitha made a Gruffalo puppet. It had orange eyes, a black tongue, terrible tusks and a wart on its nose. It also had purple prickles all over its back. Well done Tabitha. What a great puppet!
R BEECH - Shonagh for working so hard on her phonics, reading and writing this half term. She is know keen to read every day at school and is using her phonics in her independent writing. Great work Shonagh, keep it up!
R HAZEL - Aria for wonderful independent writing this week. She was so proud of herself, and so were we!
1 OAK - Emily for the excellent attitude she shows in our Maths lessons. We have been exploring numbers within 50, and Emily has been brilliant at spotting connections and partitioning numbers into tens and ones using Base 10. Miss Daly was really impressed with how confidently she explains her thinking. Well done Emily - you are a fantastic role model for others in Maths!
1 PINE - Milo for his fantastic writing in English. He worked incredibly hard to write a persuasive letter to our MP, asking for more trees to be planted in our local area. Well done Milo!
2 CEDAR - Ethan who thoroughly enjoyed celebrating World Book Day and completed several activities in class. He created a fantastic lolly stick based on the character Funny Bones. Well done Ethan!
2 HAWTHORN - Grace for wonderful work in Maths. She has worked incredibly hard to become more independent with her learning. She also impressed Mrs Porter with how she now helps others. She hopes that Grace has realised how fun Maths is!
3 ELM - Abby In English we have been thinking about how authors create fantasy setting descriptions. Abby listened really carefully to the descriptive text and then created a brilliant picture of a cottage in a forest based on all the details in the writing. Wonderful work Abby!
3 MAPLE - Aairah In Maths this half term, we have been learning about measures, including carefully measuring classroom objects using centimetres and millimetres. Aairah really enjoyed her learning and Mrs Goree and Ms Humphries were so proud that she was able to carefully check and correct her measurements as well - super Maths Aairah, well done!
4 ALDER - Iris In English we have been reading Varjak Paw. We had class discussions about whether or not Varjak should fight his mean brother Julius. Iris was excellent at debating this issue and then wrote a brilliant creative discussion text. She used imaginative noun phrases and subordinate clauses to describe each side of the argument and her own opinion. “Ultimately, I believe that Varjak should not fight because he might get injured badly so he wouldn’t be able to fight the black cats and maybe even save his family from great danger.” Iris’ writing is always fantastic!
4 LARCH - Hadi Larch class have also been debating whether we think the character Varjak Paw should stand up to his cruel brother and fight or not. Hadi wrote a brilliant discussion text, giving thoughtful reasons for both sides of his argument. Mrs Steen was so impressed with how hard he worked independently.
5 ROWAN - Miya for her fabulous diary entry inspired by Zoe from Floodland by Marcus Sedgwick. Writing in first person, she truly stepped into Zoe’s shoes and brought the character to life. Her use of rich, emotive language helped the reader feel Zoe’s thoughts and experiences and she clearly sequenced the events she described, making the diary easy and engaging to follow. This thoughtful and imaginative piece of writing shows great understanding of the character and excellent storytelling skills. “Suddenly I saw Munchkin closing a door. My heart pounded, my eyes widened, my breathing stopped. Would he see me?” Well done Miya - what a brilliant achievement!
5 WILLOW - Abdul-Qaadhir for the excellent effort and participation he has shown in Spanish. As part of our new unit In a Spanish café, we have been practising conversations and taking turns to act out being customers and waiters. Abdul-Qaadhir showed great enthusiasm throughout the lesson, working brilliantly with his partner. Well done for a fantastic effort in practising pronunciation when speaking Spanish. Keep up the excellent work!
6 ASPEN - Amelie In Geography, we have been learning about Fairtrade. She researched the topic very well and presented her findings beautifully. She showed a good understanding of how we can all do our bit to help farmers be treated more fairly.
6 HOLLY - Rumaisa Mrs Bull was so impressed by Rumaisa’s descriptive story. She created a vivid and engaging setting, using excellent sentence openers, rich vocabulary and some truly lovely descriptive noun phrases that really brought her story to life. Her handwriting is beautifully presented, neat and easy to read, which makes her piece even more impressive. It is clear that Rumaisa took great care with her work. A very impressive piece of writing - well done Rumaisa. She should be very proud of herself! “Feeling nervous but confident, I walked really slowly towards the harbour. The morning air was hot and fresh. As the sun was beginning to rise, the last of the fog drifted away revealing a light blue sky.”
